Dear All

Thank you for your wonderful complements regarding the service that Vicky and I provide at the Cafe at Waddington Street. We are really please that you feel we are doing a good job. However a number of clients have requested some changes and we have taken this on board. Therefore we would like to take this opportunity and tell you the exciting things that are going to take place.

One of the items that we are constantly being asked for by the client on the questionnaire was dinners to be brought back on to the menu and fish and chips were a favourite runner. You must appreciate that we have a vast menu and we cannot cook everything. So leading up to Christmas we are going to do the following. We are going to serve bacon, egg or sausage hot sarnies, home-made cakes, scones, biscuits, toast, teacakes and all beverages, to 11.45am every day.

A three course menu of soup, dinner and pudding will be available Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 12pm until 1.45pm. An example of dinners will be Shepherds pie served with vegetables & gravy, sausage casserole and mash potato, sausage & mash, chicken casserole, chicken pie, mash served with vegetable and gravy and hot beef slices in Yorkshire pudding and fish and chips.

Other dinners being suggested were pasta dishes, curries, or dishes with rice. From 1.45pm until 3.30pm will be selling bacon, egg and sausage hot sarnies and all our home-made goodies.

There will be only one choice of dinner but we will cater for our two and only vegetarians in the centre. A large percentage of clients have asked for fish and chips on a Friday, and we will be serving this when we get our new fryer. What I am concerned about is that Waddington Street Cafe might turn into a Greasy Spoon but maybe that’s what our customer wants! I know that people who use the café want to be served up with a hearty meal at minimal cost, but we have costs to cover and to make a profit otherwise Vicky would be out of a job!

You have asked for some new fillings to go with the jacket potatoes and decide to take tuna off the menu until January 2010 and offer chilli con carne, a cold chicken filling, cheesy coleslaw and bacon & brie.

We have therefore taken off the menu omettles, toasties, all day breakfast, hot beef sarnies and sandwiches. The dinners will be served at 12pm and soup will be £2.20, a dinner £3.50 and hot pudding £1.30. There is an increase in prices in the overall menu but we are still cheaper than any other commercial retailers in Durham City. Except for the Church on a Thursday who offer lunch cheaper then we can buy it in for but they have minimal overhead costs as their staff are all volunteers.
There is also an opportunity to any of the Waddington Street service users to come into the kitchen and help out. That can be for an hour or a morning or afternoon.   Ali can sort out your food hygiene certificate if you have not got one. I would like to encourage anyone to come and have a chat to Vicky or myself.

I like to take this opportunity to say thank you for your support since we have taken over the Cafe and look forward to seeing you at the counter. I have put below for your information the new prices for the cafe and menu.
